Appreciation post: The guy who gave me his half-used gesso after his canvas split
Last weekend I was at the community center swap table and this older guy was packing up his stuff. He stopped me and said his canvas got a big tear right down the middle so he was done for the day. He offered me his tub of Liquitex gesso that was maybe 60 percent full. I almost said no because I thought it was a hassle but I took it. That stuff is expensive and now I don't have to buy a new tub for my next three paintings. Has anyone else been surprised by a random trade like that?

Why would you take half-used art supplies from a stranger?

Oh man, free art supplies are basically the universe's way of saying "you deserve a win today." Half a tub of Liquitex gesso is like finding a twenty dollar bill in an old jacket, except it's less laundry and more painting. Hope that guy's new canvas doesn't betray him the same way.
