My latest snack plate hack: putting cheese under the broiler for 2 minutes

I tried broiling a block of halloumi for my snack plate last weekend, you know, right on the top rack. It came out all golden and squeaky on the outside but melty in the middle, totally unexpected. I learned that you gotta watch it like a hawk, because 30 seconds too long and it goes from perfect to a puddle. Has anyone else tried heating up cheese on their snack plate, or am I just overcomplicating a cold snack?

Cold cheese on a snack plate is just better, no doubt about it. You put heat on it and you lose that sharp, dry texture that makes a good cheddar or gouda actually stand out against the crackers. By the time it's melty, you're basically eating a greasy mess that slides off everything and turns your whole plate into a puddle of oil. I've seen people do this with brie and it ruins the whole point of having a firm, cold bite next to a crisp apple or a slice of salami. Warm cheese belongs on a pizza, not a snack plate... that's just my two cents.

Put a sheet of parchment under it next time, saves the cleanup.
