My aunt's fruit plate rule threw me for a loop at Thanksgiving
At Thanksgiving last month, my aunt saw my snack plate and said, 'You're stacking the grapes on top of the brie, that's why they slide off.' I honestly never thought about weight distribution on a board, but she was right. I always just piled stuff wherever it fit and called it done. Now I separate the heavy stuff like melon and grapes onto their own little zone before adding the soft cheese. Has anyone else got a weird family rule about snack plate layout that actually works?
Ever tried putting the crackers on the board before anything else? It sounds obvious but once I started doing that, everything else just sort of fit in the gaps. I also keep a tiny spoon for the brie so people don't smear it all over the grapes when they dig in. My grandma always said the board is a map, not a dump, and she'd separate salty from sweet with a little line of rosemary or nuts. It sounds silly but it really cuts down on the mess and keeps the picky eaters happy.
