Tried a ground-penetrating radar in my own backyard and found something I wasn't expecting

My buddy let me borrow his GPR unit last weekend since he wasn't using it. I figured I'd find old pipes or maybe some trash from the 70s when this neighborhood was built. Instead it pinged something about 4 feet down that turned out to be a stone foundation from way before the houses went up. Turns out there was a small farmhouse here in the 1800s that none of my neighbors knew about. The city records only go back to 1952 so this was a total surprise. Has anyone else dug up something unexpected in their own yard using a scanner or radar?

Isn't it funny how the things we assume are solidly known about our own little corners of the world can turn out to be totally wrong when we actually look? It's like we're all just living on layers of forgotten history without even realizing it.

What has really helped me is just digging through old property records and local library archives. You'd be surprised what you find that no one talks about anymore. Have you stumbled across anything specific that changed your view of where you live?
