Took me 6 weeks to realize the dirt layer in that dig photo was modern fill
Ran into this while cataloging a site near Tulsa. The aerial shots showed a clean boundary line that shouldnt have been there for a real ancient layer. Spent a month trying to match it to known strata. Finally walked the site and saw old tractor ruts and a utility trench. The whole section was backfill from the 1970s. Made me wonder how many other photos in archives have this issue. Anyone else ever wasted time on a misread aerial?
