Stonehenge car park was way more interesting than the main stones

I drove down to Salisbury last month and honestly the ditch and bank around the main circle told me more than the standing stones themselves. They don't even let you walk right up to them anymore, just roped off with a path 50 feet away. But that car park area has those burial mounds you can actually touch, and the visitor center flint tools display was packed with stuff I never saw in any textbook. Why do they charge 25 pounds to look at rocks from a distance when the real story is in the dirt work nobody talks about?

Oh, give me a break. You're acting like the whole point of Stonehenge was to let you climb on the rocks and carve your initials. It's an ancient monument, not a jungle gym. The ropes are there to keep the place from falling apart, and honestly, the view from the path is just as good as standing right next to them. The car park might have some interesting details if you're really into dirt, but calling it "way more interesting" than one of the most famous structures on Earth sounds like you're just trying to be contrary. You paid 25 quid for the experience of standing in that field, and you got it.

Look, the car park thing might sound dumb but the guy has a point if you know what to look for. Those earthworks and the old roadway they found during the car park expansion actually revealed some cool stuff about how they moved the stones. But the real pro tip is to go during the winter solstice when they open it up for the sunrise - you can get way closer without the ropes being in your face. Or do the inner circle access tour if you really want to touch the rocks, that's like 40 quid but you walk right in the middle. The regular ticket price is honestly just paying for the bus ride and the gift shop at this point. I've been three times and the best visit was when we skipped the stones entirely and walked the whole perimeter to see the burial mounds.

Forty quid for the inner circle tour?" Wait, that's almost double the regular ticket.
