Rant: my prof said to stop digging when the dirt changes color, and she was dead right
She told our field school group in Durango back in 2019 that when the soil shifts from dark brown to pale yellow, stop and scrape the walls instead of going deeper, and last week at a site outside Cortez that exact color change was sitting right on top of a burned floor with 3 pieces of cord marked pottery, so has anyone else had a dig instructor's one random rule turn out to be the thing that saved a site?
