Last week at a dig site in Arizona, I spent three hours carefully brushing dirt off what I thought was a pottery shard. Turned out to be a weirdly shaped potato chip from someone's lunch break in 1998.

Whoa wait, fossilized like actually rock hard and everything? I mean, did it still have the little gummy bear shape or was it just a blob at that point? That's wild to think about, like how long would that even take to happen. Maybe it's just me but I can't picture a gummy bear surviving long enough to turn into a fossil unless it got buried super fast.
