I thought the 'lost city' of Tenea was just a story until they found the coins
I read about archaeologists looking for this Greek city that was said to be founded by Trojan War prisoners. I figured it was just a legend, like Atlantis. Then in 2018, they dug up over 200 rare coins and a whole network of houses near Chiliomodi, proving it was real. It made me realize how much real history gets written off as myth. Has anyone else been surprised by a discovery that turned a legend into fact?

Real history gets written off as myth"... but is it really that deep?

Oh man, I've seen this happen. I had a professor who spent years digging through local archives, finding proof of events everyone called tall tales. People just don't like their comfortable stories challenged. It takes real work to change a mind once something's labeled "just a story.

Troy itself was considered a myth until Schliemann dug it up. Most legends have a grain of truth, but that grain is usually tiny. Finding coins doesn't mean the whole Trojan prisoner story is fact.
