I just hit 100 hours sorting pottery shards from a single dig site and it hit me

I was working through a box from a Roman villa site near Cirencester, just putting pieces into piles by color and thickness like always. When my spreadsheet hit 100 logged hours on this one project, I stopped and looked at the table. The sheer number of pieces, all from one small kitchen area, really showed how much stuff people used and broke back then. It's not about one perfect pot, it's about the whole picture of daily life told by a mountain of broken bits. Has anyone else had a simple count make a site feel more real to them?
