I finally stopped using my trowel like a shovel at the Turkey Creek dig
For years I scraped soil away in big scoops, thinking speed was key. Last month at the Turkey Creek site, my supervisor pointed to a tiny, broken bead I'd missed in my spoil heap. She said, 'You're moving dirt, not looking at it.' Now I work in thin layers, checking each bit of soil before I move it. Has anyone else had to unlearn a basic field habit that was hurting your finds?

Oh man, I used to treat my screen like a salad spinner.

Treat my screen like a salad spinner" is such a perfect way to put it, @fiona332. I was the same, just aggressively swiping at everything like I was trying to get water off lettuce. My old phone's screen protector was a war zone of micro-scratches from all that frantic spinning.
