I disagree with the hype around that new soil dating method from the Cambridge dig

I read that article last week about the new luminescence dating being used on those pottery shards from the river site. Everyone in the comments is acting like it's the greatest thing since carbon dating. But I talked to my professor who worked on a similar site in Missouri and she said the moisture levels in that region mess up the readings by at least 40 years. She showed me her own lab results from 2019 where the same method gave three different dates for the same layer. I think we are jumping to conclusions too fast. Has anyone else here actually tried replicating those Cambridge results in a different soil type?

Yeah trends move faster than real science these days.

Moisture levels would shift the signal though - did your prof test wet vs dry samples?
