Thought air spades were overpriced hype until I tried one last week

Borrowed an Air-Spade 2000 from a buddy to clear soil from a big oak's root flare. Dug around 4 inches deep in 10 minutes without nicking a single root. Has anyone else switched from hand digging for root collar exams?

Honestly, did you have to adjust the pressure much to avoid blowing bark off?

Blew a chunk of bark clean off my neighbor's fence on my first try, scared his dog half to death. Ended up dialing it way back, like barely above a leaf blower setting just to keep things in one piece. Tested it on a few loose rocks in the driveway first to get a feel for it, that helped a ton. Pretty much had to creep up from the lowest setting and stop the second anything started to fly.
