The day my climbing spike slipped on a wet oak in Portland
Last Tuesday I was doing a takedown on a big oak in a NE Portland backyard and the rain had been coming down steady since 6am, so the bark was slicker than I expected. Mid-climb, my right spike just slid out and I swung hard into the trunk, bruising two ribs and dropping my chainsaw bar into a flower bed below. Has anyone else had close calls with wet bark and found a better footlock technique or boot mod that helps grip?
Wet oak in Portland" and I felt that in my ribs, ha. I've done the same dance where my spike just nopes out and suddenly I'm hugging the tree like it's my ex. Still haven't found a fix, just learned to cuss louder on the way down.
