Pro tip: Check for a second trunk before you start cutting

Last week in Peoria, I was about to drop a big oak when I spotted another trunk hidden in the ivy, a foot from the main one. That would have been a bad day. Anyone ever had a tree hide its structure like that?

Yeah, I get what you mean about hidden stuff, @abbyr96. I was helping my uncle clear brush last fall and almost backed his riding mower right into a rusty old car bumper buried in the tall grass. It was just the corner sticking up, but it would have wrecked the blades. You never know what's grown over until you're right on top of it.

Yeah totally get what you're saying about "the corner sticking up." I found an old concrete birdbath base buried in my backyard one time just from the little tip poking out of the dirt after it rained. Almost twisted my ankle stepping on it while I was just trying to pull some weeds. It's wild how stuff settles and gets swallowed up by grass and mud over the years, you'd think it would just stay visible but nope.

Seriously, how often does that actually happen though?
