Just realized I've been climbing wrong for three years

I was helping a new guy on a big oak removal in Tacoma last month, and he asked why I kept my lanyard so loose. I told him it was for speed, but then I watched him work. He kept his tight, moved smoother, and looked way more solid. It hit me that my old way was just making me fight the tree the whole time. How many of you had to unlearn a bad climbing habit?

Last winter I tried to fix my leaky kitchen faucet for two hours before my wife pointed out I was turning the wrench the wrong way. I'd been doing it like that for years. It's crazy how you can build a whole routine around a tiny mistake. You just get used to the extra struggle and never question it. That moment when you finally see the right way feels like unlocking a cheat code.

Oh man that's so true. It's like we all have these little blind spots where we're just doing things the hard way without even knowing. I mean how many other things are we all messing up right now that we'll only figure out years later? That cheat code feeling is the best, makes you wonder what else you could fix.
