I finally learned a mature oak can drink 50 gallons of water a day, and it changed how I water my yard
I read this in a county extension handout from Ohio State last week and had to reread it. Fifty gallons a day for a big oak in summer, which means my 20 minute soak with the hose is basically a splash in the bucket. Now I'm wondering if the shallow watering I've done for years is why my lawn trees look stressed in August. How do you all water big yard trees without running the well dry?
