Homeowners keep buying mulch from big box stores and wondering why their trees die
Had three calls this week where people dumped fresh dyed mulch into a volcano mound right against the trunk. The bark is starting to rot on all of them. I keep telling them the same thing, that mulch is not for looks, it's for moisture and soil temp. Two of them said the guy at Lowe's told them it was fine. How do you all handle explaining this without sounding like a jerk? Do you charge extra to fix a mulch volcano or just walk away? Been doing this 12 years in Portland and I swear it's getting worse every spring.
