Cut back a maple in Council Bluffs last spring, and the difference 8 months later is wild
I did a hard reduction prune on a silver maple back in March, took off maybe 30 percent of the canopy because the thing was way over the driveway. Went back to the same yard in Council Bluffs last week and the new growth is tight and compact instead of those long skinny water sprouts I was dreading. My old foreman always said silver maples throw sprouts if you hack them, but going back to the same branch size seems to keep it in check. Anyone else notice this on silver maples or did I just get lucky with a mild summer?
