Came off a 40 ft white oak into a chain link fence last Tuesday and I'm still chewing on it
So last Tuesday I was doing a removal on a big white oak behind a house in Fairview and things went sideways on me. I had my notch and back cut lined up fine, but the limb I was roping out twisted on the way down and swung right into the neighbor's chain link fence instead of the drop zone. Bent two posts and put a good dent in some fence panel, maybe $250 of damage if I'm being honest. Nobody got hurt and the homeowner was cool about it, but I keep replaying the rigging setup in my head trying to see where I went wrong. I think I had too much slack in my line and didn't account for the wind pushing the tips. What do you all do to keep limbs from spinning like that when you're roping near a property line? Any tricks for a guy who's been climbing about 3 years now?
