Showerthought: Heard a customer at the hardware store say 'it's just a dryer, how complicated can it be?'

I was picking up a new belt for a Maytag Neptune and this guy was telling his friend he was going to fix his own dryer because it seemed simple. He was holding a multimeter wrong. It made me realize most people have no clue about the safety interlocks or the diagnostic modes we use every day. Anyone else have a moment where you realized how much specialized knowledge this job actually takes?

Honestly, hearing "it's just a dryer" used to be my exact thought. Seeing a guy hold a multimeter upside down was a real wake-up call. It made me realize there's a whole hidden layer to even the simple stuff.

Oh man, I saw a guy try to reset a furnace limit switch with a fork.
