PSA: Used to tighten every screw on a washer lid switch until I stripped one
Back when I started, I'd crank down those little screws until they squeaked (you know, felt solid). Now I just snug them and stop - lost a whole hour last Tuesday because I stripped one on a Samsung and had to drill it out. Anyone else learn this one the hard way?

Ngl, stripped screws on washer lids are the worst. It's not just the torque though, you gotta make sure you're using the right bit too. A slightly worn phillips will cam out way easier than a fresh one, especially on those Samsung panels. Still, better to learn it on a cheap lid than on something expensive.

and honestly half the time it's not even the bit that's the problem, it's the pilot hole. people don't think about that. on those samsung lids especially, the plastic is soft and the threads are shallow, so if you don't get a clean start with a smaller bit first, the screw just wants to wander off and chew up the plastic. i learned that the hard way on a dryer panel once, had to fill the hole with epoxy and re-drill. a fresh bit helps too but if the hole is buggered from the start you're just spinning your wheels.

Pre-drilling with a sharp bit saves so much hassle on those cheap plastic lids.
