Pro tip: soaking old LG control boards in isopropyl actually brought one back to life
Had a customer's 3 year old washer throwing a bunch of random error codes last Tuesday. Display was flickering but the board looked clean. Checked the connections all good. Was about to quote them $250 for a new board. On a whim I pulled the board, dunked it in 91% isopropyl for 2 hours, let it dry overnight, and put it back. Thing fired right up and has been running fine for a week. I know water damage is the usual suspect but this was just general gunk from a humid basement. Anyone else ever tried this for mystery board issues?

Nah that's a terrible idea, you're asking for a short circuit.

Oh man, that's wild. @terryr46, are you seriously saying that? I gotta admit I'm shocked you'd write that off so fast. I've been messing with electronics for years and never had a short circuit issue with that kind of setup. If you use the right gauge wire and a proper fuse, it's totally fine. Maybe you had a bad experience once, but that doesn't mean it's a terrible idea for everyone.
