My most memorable repair involved a customer's sound effects

I fix appliances on the side, and I've noticed a funny trend with how people explain issues. Last month, a man called me about his washing machine. He insisted on demonstrating the noise by making loud humming and grinding sounds with his voice. It was so over the top that I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing. He even added hand motions like the machine was shaking. After listening, I found it was just a worn-out belt. His performance made a simple fix into an entertaining visit. It shows how much we rely on customer stories, even when they're dramatic.

Honestly used to get so annoyed when people acted out their appliance problems. Thought it wasted time when I could just check the machine myself. But this one lady with a fridge that "groaned like a haunted house" actually led me straight to a faulty compressor I might have missed. Now I kinda love the show and tell, it gives you clues plain words don't. Turns out those crazy performances are part of the diagnostic.

Wait, a fridge actually groaned like a haunted house, @amyw63? That's wild.

Always thought those acts were silly, but they really do help.
