I was replacing dryer belts for 5 years before a customer in Tampa pointed out my ratchet was on the wrong setting

I was struggling to get the right tension on a Maytag dryer belt last Tuesday, and the homeowner, who used to fix jets, asked if my ratchet was set to tighten or loosen, which made me check and realize I'd been working against the tool's own mechanism this whole time, so has anyone else had a simple tool mistake that cost you a bunch of time?

On a Bosch router I borrowed, I fought with the depth adjustment for twenty minutes before realizing the lock lever was barely engaging. For me, slowing down and actually reading the manual when I first get a tool saved me hours of frustration later. Just taking those few minutes upfront can save a ton of hassle down the road.

I spent a whole day trying to drill a hole with the chuck key still in.

Heard that's a rite of passage for every new drill owner.
