Hot take: stop rebuilding sealed compressors, just swap them

Last Tuesday in Tacoma I spent 90 minutes trying to rebuild a sealed unit on a 20 year old fridge, only to have it lock up again the next day. The customer paid twice for labor and I lost the whole afternoon, has anyone else just started quoting replacement from the start?

and honestly that whole situation kind of mirrors how we treat everything now, like we'll patch up old stuff forever instead of just admitting when something's past its prime. i mean, i've got a toaster from 1998 that i keep fixing with duct tape and hope, but at some point you're just throwing good money after bad. maybe the real lesson is knowing when to let go, for both appliances and your sanity.
