Hot take: Full system replacement isn't always the answer for fridge leaks

Many techs insist on full sealed system replacement for fridge leaks. I did too, until a job where it wasn't an option. I used a sealant and it has worked for two years now. I now assess each leak individually. Sometimes a simpler fix is enough.

Hold on, I gotta disagree. In my experience, those sealants are just a short-term fix. They often fail and can clog other parts, like the compressor. A full system replacement is more reliable and saves money down the road.

But plenty of folks get years out of a sealant fix.

Man, I was totally on your side for years. I swore by those sealant fixes every single time. But last summer mine failed after just a few months and took the whole compressor with it. The repair bill was insane. Now I'm convinced a full replace is the only way to go for real peace of mind.
