Hit job number 5000 on a fridge in Gary and just sat in the truck for a minute
Last Friday I closed out my 5000th service call since I started keeping the log back in 2011, and it was a plain french door fridge with a bad defrost heater in Gary, Indiana of all places. I actually did the math on the drive home and that works out to about 385 calls a year, which sounds fake until you remember the summers where I was running 12 a day. The weird part is I didn't feel anything when I wrote the invoice, it only hit me later in the truck when I pulled up the spreadsheet and saw the number sitting there. That log has every address, every part, and every callback marked, and flipping through it I saw three customers I've been back to nine times because their wiring in those old houses is just junk. The number itself doesn't pay any bills, but it made me think about how much of this trade is just showing up over and over and remembering what you did last time. Do any of you keep a running count of your calls, and did a certain number sneak up on you?
