Grateful for a tip from an old timer that saved me 3 hours
A retired repairman named Bob at the hardware store told me to check the door switch before pulling a washer apart. Sure enough, that little plastic lever was cracked on a $15 part. Has anyone else gotten good advice from someone you just met at a supply counter?

That Bob sounds like a real gem. I'm convinced old timer hardware store advice is worth its weight in gold because they've already made every stupid mistake so we don't have to. My personal favorite was some guy at the plumbing supply who told me to stop fighting a stubborn shutoff valve and just replace the whole damn thing before I stripped it completely. Saved me from a weekend of cursing and a potential flood. Honestly half the time the best fix is just buying the right $10 part instead of pretending you're some kind of engineering prodigy.

Hard disagree there. Sometimes that old timer advice is just them passing down bad habits from a time when half the code didn't exist and they used whatever worked that one time, your mileage may vary.
