Found a weird fix for a fridge that kept frosting over

Had a customer call me about a Frigidaire that was icing up in the freezer every 3 days. I checked the door seal, defrost timer, and even the thermistor, all fine. Then I noticed the drain tube was clogged with a little chunk of ice from sitting water. I poured hot water down it with a turkey baster, cleared it out, and put a piece of copper wire in the tube to stop future clogs. Has anyone else used that trick with copper wire, or got a better way to keep those drain lines open?

Wait, you're telling me that guy actually fixed his fridge with a paperclip and some duct tape? That's INSANE, I can't believe it even held together long enough to test.
