Thought long anime was always better until I hit 120 episodes and quit
I used to think any show under 50 episodes was too short to build a real story, so I kept forcing myself through 120 episode shonen stuff even when I was bored. Last month I started a 12 episode show on a whim and finished it in two nights, and I actually remembered every character's name, which never happens with the long ones. Did switching to shorter shows make anyone else enjoy anime way more, or do you still need that long haul to feel invested?
That memory thing is real though. With 12 episodes you actually get time to sit with each character instead of watching them blur into the background by season three. I've noticed I pick up on small stuff now too, like a look a character gives in episode 4 that pays off in episode 9, because my brain isn't fried from marathoning 60 hours of filler. The trade off is you finish them so fast you're stuck hunting for the next one every few days.
