Shoutout to my sister for ending anime talks by calling them all strange, I give up.

Right? That "strange" comment is the universal shutdown. My brother does the same thing, he just calls it all "weird cartoons" and walks out of the room. It's like they hear one sentence about a plot and their brain just stops. You try to explain the context or why a scene is actually really good, but they've already made up their mind. What's the point in trying to talk about something you like when they just write it all off like that? I've totally given up too.

My sister used to do that with my playlists, calling my favorite songs noise until she heard one in a movie and asked who it was. That dismissive label is a shield against having to engage, fisher.paige. They call anime "weird cartoons" so they don't have to admit they don't get it. It happened with sushi too, called it gross raw fish until it became trendy. Now they love it. The shutdown isn't about your interest being bad, it's about their own fixed view.

Funny how it's always the stuff they don't get that's "weird." Never their own boring stuff. Maybe they just hate feeling left out of the joke.
