Your brain wasn't wrong to be thrown off but it prob wasn't the sub vs dub thing. Frieren's first few eps are just slow and quiet on purpose, it barely tells you what the show is for like 4 or 5 eps. The dub is actually solid too so switching won't magically fix it if the pacing is what got you. Give it till the Fern and Stark stuff kicks in before you bail.
