My local con panel on fan theories changed how I watch shows

At Anime Expo last year, I went to a small panel about reading too much into anime. The host showed a clip from a show I love, 'Mob Psycho 100', and pointed out a tiny background detail I missed. He said, 'Sometimes a cup is just a cup, not a secret symbol.' I stopped trying to find hidden meaning in every single frame after that. Has a panel or talk ever made you watch anime differently?

People really get that deep into it? It's just a cartoon, not a secret code.

Wait, what kind of cartoon are you talking about? Because some shows have layers of jokes and background details that are absolutely meant to be found. It's not a secret code, but the creators definitely put stuff in for the fans who look closer.

Agree with @river190 here, some shows really do reward you for paying close attention.
