Just found out Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away actually beat Titanic at the Japanese box office in 2001 and nobody talks about that

Saw it on a random Box Office Mojo deep dive last night and it blew my mind since Titanic was literally the biggest movie ever at the time, but Spirited Away pulled 30 billion yen domestically which is wild when you think about how different those two movies are, so which side are you on does that make Ghibli underrated globally or is it just a Japan thing messing with the numbers?

Titanic could've used a friendly forest spirit to dodge that iceberg, maybe then the numbers would've been fair. Which movie deserves the bigger legacy based on pure rewatchability?

Oh come on, Titanic doesn't need help from any forest spirit. That movie is a total slog once you've seen it once. You already know the ship sinks, Rose lets go, and Jack freezes. It's three hours of waiting for the boat to go down. But the real answer here is definitely Jurassic Park. That movie is gold every single time. I can watch the T-Rex breakout scene on repeat and never get tired of it. Spielberg made a miracle with that one.
