Debate: is 1000 completed series a flex or a red flag?

I just hit 1000 entries on my MAL account and honestly I'm not sure if I should feel proud or worried. A friend said it's cool I've seen that much anime, but another said it means I probably don't have any real hobbies... which stung a bit. Do you guys see a huge completed count as a sign of dedication or a sign you need to touch grass? Where do you draw the line between being a fan and going overboard?

Wait, what does your friend actually watch? Is their list full of 300 episode shonen and nothing else, or do they actually branch out? Because I feel like hitting 1000 is less about the number and more about what kind of shows you've seen. If it's all seasonal romcoms and popular action stuff from the last five years, that's pretty different from having deep cuts from the 80s or classic OVAs nobody talks about. Like, I know a guy with 900 entries but it's basically the same ten battle shonen on repeat, and another who has 700 but every single one is a different genre. So which camp are you in?

Oh man, I totally get where you're coming from! For me personally, I started branching out HARD after like 200 shows because I got bored of the same shonen tropes. I mixed in some old OVAs like "Gunbuster" and random 80s sci-fi, and suddenly my list felt WAY more diverse even though the number wasn't huge.
