Wrote off half-frame cameras for 2 years, then ran a roll through a Pen EE in Sacramento
I used to think half-frame was a gimmick for people who wanted to look quirky on Instagram. Then my uncle handed me his old Olympus Pen EE before a trip to Sacramento last month and I figured why not. Shot a whole weekend on one 36 exposure roll and got 72 frames back from the lab. The wild part was how it changed the way I looked at a scene, since each shot felt half as expensive mentally. I shot stuff I would normally skip, like the light on a parking garage wall and a guy selling oranges off I-5. The frames are small and grainy but honestly they look like little postcards. Now I'm sitting on 4 rolls of Portra I bought for my regular SLR and I'm not sure I want to load them. Anyone else get weirdly hooked on half-frame after thinking it was a joke?
Drove a beat up Civic in high school that got like 40 mpg and everyone made fun of it until gas hit four bucks. Small and cheap and everyone stopped laughing real quick. Bet those Portra rolls are gonna feel the same way once you start shooting.
