One Saturday at the lake almost made me sell my Mamiya 645, here's why I kept it
Last month I drove 40 minutes to Lake Chatuge with my 645 and a fresh roll of Portra 400. I set up for this golden light shot of the dock, metered it perfect, and then some kid splashed right into the frame. I waited 20 minutes for him to leave, but by then the sun dipped behind a cloud and I got nothing but flat gray. Later I pulled the film and every shot came out underexposed because my shutter was sticking at 1/500. I almost packed it all in, but then I remembered that same camera gave me a killer portrait of my neighbor's dog last spring. Has anyone else had a day where the gear fights you, but you stick with it anyway because of an old good memory?
