My grandpa's sunny 16 advice finally clicked after 3 rolls

He told me years ago to stop obsessing over the light meter and just use sunny 16. I ignored him until I took my Pentax K1000 to a beach in Santa Cruz and every shot came out perfect, even the ones in open shade. The meter kept fighting me on the sand reflections, but his rule was dead simple and nailed exposure every time. Now I only break out the meter for indoor stuff, and I trust the sky more than the needle. Anyone else find the old rules work better after you stop fighting them?

Ha, beach sand always tricks the meter, gotta trust the sky on that one lol.
