Don't fall for the 'vintage Soviet lens' hype like I did

Spent $85 on a Helios 44-2 off eBay after every YouTube channel swore it had 'that dreamy swirly bokeh.' Took it out for a weekend shoot in Austin and half my frames came back blurry at the edges even stopped down. The adapter ring alone cost me another $12 and wobbled like crazy. Anyone else waste cash on a trendy old lens that just gave them headaches and soft photos?

Yeah same boat man. Bought a Jupiter-9 85mm because everyone raved about the portrait look. Got it in the mail and the aperture ring was sticky as hell. Took it to a park shoot, half the shots had this weird haze even in bright sun. Spent more time cleaning the internal glass than actually taking photos. Total pain.

Bruh the Helios 44-2 got me too lol. Paid $90 for one from some guy in Ukraine and the focus ring was so stiff I almost broke my fingers trying to turn it. Then I finally got some shots and the swirly bokeh was more like a blurry mess in half the frame. The adapter wobble is real too, I had to tape mine up just to keep it steady. And the lens haze? Don't even get me started, I spent an hour with a lens cloth and still had a cloudy film. Feels like these old lenses are just a gamble, you either get a gem or a total dud. Honestly makes me miss just using my kit lens without all this vintage fuss.
