Was sure the $18 radon test kit from the hardware store was a ripoff, turns out my basement was at 4.6
Bought one of those cheap charcoal radon kits at the store on Juan Tabo last month just to prove my wife wrong about our 1970s buildup in the Heights having a problem. Came back at 4.6 pCi/L, which is over the 4.0 limit, and a $150 continuous monitor we borrowed confirmed it within a few tenths. Now I'm out here wondering how many of you got a real number from a cheap kit before paying for mitigation, and did anyone around here see that same gap between the short test and the long one?
So the 4.6 was a short term test, like 2 or 3 days? Curious if you ran a long one after, since those cheap kits can swing a lot depending on weather and where you stuck it. What made you finally believe the monitor over the kit, the wife or the numbers?
