Used to let my insurance auto-renew every year. Big mistake.
I paid $1,200 more for homeowner's insurance last year because I just let it roll over without checking. Finally compared three companies this month and saved $400 a month for the same coverage. Has anyone else found a local agent who actually shops around for you?

WAIT hold on. You said you saved $400 a MONTH? That's like $4,800 a year just from shopping around. I almost choked on my drink when I read that. I thought my $200 savings was a big deal but that's INSANE what you were paying before.

Was the $400 difference just from switching to a cheaper provider, or did you actually call your old one and haggle them down? I always wonder how much of that is real savings versus just getting a temporary promo rate that spikes later. Curious if you had to put any real effort into negotiating or if the new customer deals were that much better right off the bat.
