TIL my sprinkler timer was eating an extra $40 a month on my water bill

I was at a neighbor's BBQ last Saturday and their landscaper pointed out my old timer was running each zone twice as long as needed. Anybody else notice a huge jump after switching to a smart controller?

Eh, I wouldn't get too worked up over it. $40 is annoying but its not like the end of the world or anything. Smart controllers are probably fine but I bet half the savings people claim is just them being more careful after switching. Honestly your old timer was probably fine for years and you only noticed because someone said something.
