That “free” home energy audit guy wanted $4,800 by Friday, and I almost wrote the check
A guy knocked on my door off Montgomery a month ago saying PNM was doing free attic checks in my zip code, and I figured it was a scam but let him up anyway. He poked around for 15 minutes, then handed me a quote for $4,800 of blown-in insulation and a new attic fan, saying I had to sign by Friday or the rebate disappeared. I said I would think about it, and my brother in-law made one call to the utility, which said they have no such program and never send people door to door. Turns out the "rebate" was just his company's own discount, and the same work from a local guy on Nextdoor ran me $1,900 last month. Check with the utility directly before you let anyone in your attic, and never trust a deadline that expires in 48 hours. What is the going rate around here for blown-in, because I want to know if I still overpaid?
