Rant: My old sprinkler timer was a waste of $150

I used to run my sprinklers on that cheap mechanical timer from Home Depot and my grass always looked patchy. Switched to a smart timer last spring after a neighbor showed me his setup in Rio Rancho. Has anyone else noticed a big difference going digital?

Idk man, I still use a basic mechanical timer and my lawn looks fine here in Ohio.

Haha man I feel you. My old timer made me feel like a lawn expert but all it really did was water my sidewalk perfectly while the grass looked sad. Made the switch to a digital one last year and my grass went from looking like a sad carpet to actually green. Even had a moment where I walked outside and thought someone replaced my lawn. Its funny how much of a difference a smart timer makes, but it took me way too long to admit my mechanical one was just a fancy paperweight. You ever catch yourself staring at your grass now wondering why you waited so long?

Respectfully, I think the old timers get a bad rap sometimes. Maybe you just had a dud or your watering schedule was way off, because I'm still using a basic rain delay one from 2018 and my yard in Virginia is the envy of the block. Not everyone needs wifi in their sprinkler to have a green lawn, you know?
