PSA: My neighbor's tree roots destroyed our shared sewer line

So our house started backing up last spring, just a slow drain at first. I figured it was just a clogged grease trap or something simple. Our neighbor Bob kept saying it was probably his big cottonwood tree out front, the roots always find the pipes he told me. I hired a plumber to snake it twice and he said the same thing. Finally got a camera inspection done and yep, Bob was right. The roots had cracked the clay pipe right at the property line. Cost us $2,400 to dig it up and replace a 6 foot section. Has anyone else dealt with a shared sewer line issue with a neighbor in Albuquerque? How did you split the cost?

$2,400 is rough. Bob sounds like a decent neighbor for being upfront about it.
