PSA: I had to choose between a swamp cooler and a mini split for my 1920s adobe

I went with the mini split after two summers of swamp cooler humidity ruining my plaster, and my electric bill dropped $40 a month. Has anyone else dealt with humidity damage in older homes here?

Hold on about the swamp cooler humidity claim. Swamp coolers actually add moisture to the air, so if your plaster was getting damaged, that humidity is usually from outside air or rain seeping in, not the cooler itself. Your mileage may vary, but I'd double check your weather stripping and foundation before blaming the cooler completely.
