Our adobe ceiling had a hidden leak for months, finally found it with a garden hose
Last spring we kept getting this weird damp spot on the living room ceiling after heavy rain, but the roof looked fine from outside. We paid $400 for a roofer who found nothing, then my buddy suggested flooding the roof area section by section with a hose. Turned out the old metal flashing around the chimney had a hairline crack, water was running down inside the wall for like 5 months before we caught it. Anyone else had luck with the hose trick or did you have to rip open drywall first?

Hose trick saved my sanity a few years back with a bay window leak. Roofer checked everything twice, blamed the window, wanted to rip out the whole frame. Flooded the roof with a hose starting at the low side and worked up, took maybe twenty minutes before water showed up inside. Turned out a tiny nail hole in the step flashing, not even visible from above without pulling shingles. Cost me a tube of caulk and a Saturday afternoon instead of a couple grand. Only catch is you gotta be patient and do one section at a time, let the water work its way down before you move the hose.
