My stupid irrigation valve ate 3 weekends before I called a pro

Tried replacing a $14 valve myself after the grass went brown by the fence, but the fit was wrong, then the timer kept skipping, and it took a plumber 20 minutes to fix what took me 3 full weekends, so how do you all decide when the DIY is just not worth it?

Funny how we'll pay anyone to fix our car but somehow think we can outsmart our own plumbing.
