My dad said to wait on the new roof until after monsoon season
Honestly, I was ready to replace our old roof this spring. The shingles were curling and I got a quote for $8,500 from a local company. My dad, who's lived here for 40 years, told me to hold off until at least October. He said the summer heat and monsoon rains can mess with the sealant strips on new shingles before they set right. I didn't listen and booked it for June. We had that huge storm in July with the hail, and sure enough, a bunch of the new shingles lifted at the edges. The roofer had to come back and fix a whole section for free, but it was a huge hassle. Tbh, I should have just waited like he said. Has anyone else had a similar issue with timing a big home repair here?

Man, that's rough but I get not wanting to wait when you see a problem. My neighbor had his driveway sealed right before a surprise heatwave last year, and the whole thing bubbled up and turned sticky. It never really set right and now it's peeling. He was so mad he rushed it. Is there something about summer that just makes us want to get these outdoor jobs done, even when it's a bad idea?

Bubbled up and turned sticky? That's wild.

That 90 degree day last July hit my neighborhood hard too... a guy two streets down tried to paint his fence in the middle of it and the whole thing just peeled right off. It's like the sun tricks us into thinking we have to do everything at once when really we should be waiting for the cooler weather. Summer just makes us feel like we're running out of time for these projects even when the conditions are totally wrong.
